Xilam seals Oggy deal for Amazon India
Amazon’s recently launched Indian streaming service has snagged exclusive local rights to several titles from French studio Xilam.
The deal gives Amazon exclusive SVOD rights to all existing and future seasons of Xilam’s hit slapstick toon Oggy & the Cockroaches.
The streaming service also lands Zig & Sharko as part of the deal, as well as Xilam titles including Floopaloo, A Kind of Magic, The Daltons and Paprika.
Oggy is on Cartoon Network in several territories and has been a big seller for Xilam, which produces the show and handles international sales. A fifth season of the show is underway and plans for a sixth and seventh are afoot.
In India it has been on both Turner’s Cartoon and Viacom’s rival kids net Nickelodeon. Recent deals have seen Oggy head for China.
Nitesh Kripalani, director and country head, Amazon Prime Video India said: “This is an important milestone in the journey to offering the best kids’ entertainment to our Prime members.”
Xilam founder Marc du Pontavice said: “As we prepare for the future, and the new ways content is used within the family, it is essential that we find the right partners to facilitate our expansion into the digital world. That’s why we are so thrilled to be entering into this agreement with Amazon Prime Video since we value so highly their expertise in subscription streaming.”
