Amazon, HBO go Into the Badlands
Amazon Prime in Germany and HBO Europe are among buyers of AMC martial drama Into the Badlands, which has now been licensed into 260 territories.
HBO Europe’s deal covers Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, while Viacom International Media Networks has acquired rights in Italy.
TV2 is also a buyer in Norway, while Universum Film has taken rights to Austria, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
Distributor Entertainment One Television has previously licensed the ten-part series to Amazon in the UK, LeTV in China, Foxtel in Australia, SoHo in New Zealand, C More in Scandinavia. AMC Global, the international version of the US AMC channel, has rights in more than 125 territories in Asia, the Benelux region, Latin America, central Europe and Spain.
The news comes soon after AMC renewed Badlands for a second season. Season one averaged 5.6 million viewers in the US and took strong performances in key AMC Global territories.
The show is set in a devastated future world in which powerful feudal barons control resources and enforce their will through loyal soldiers called ‘Clippers’.
