News brief: Nets buy Russian-themed content from TVF
UK distributor TVF International has sold Canadian doc Ice, Sweat and Tears to NHK in Japan and GEM Group in Iran.
Ice, Sweat and Tears, which comes from Markham Street Films and was for Canuck pubcaster CBC, features ice skating stars and launched at MIPCOM ahead of Russia’s Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year. A Chinese broadcaster has the doc under offer and negotiations are underway across Europe, TVFI said.
At MIPCOM earlier this month, TVFI launched Today’s Russia: A Literary Landscape, a special presented by well-known gay rights campaigner and broadcaster Stephen Fry. The doc is set to broadcast on PBS in the US.
