Foxtel conjures up Presto online movie service

Australia’s Foxtel will launch an online subscription movie streaming service.

Presto will be priced at A$24.99 (US$23.56) per month and offer the movies pay platform Foxtel has on licence at that time.

This will include films from MGM, NBCUniversal, Paramount Pictures, Roadshow Films, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Entertainment One, ICON, Studiocanal and Transmission Films.

The service will launch later this year, initially on PCs and later on tablets.

It comes after News Corp.-majority owned Foxtel launched online and catch-up TV service Foxtel Play across games platforms, PCs and smart TVs.

Richard Freudenstein, Foxtel Chief Executive, said: “Australians are hungry for different ways to experience great entertainment when they want and how they want. The launch of Presto as a second brand allows us to meet the needs of different customer segments more effectively and is another way Foxtel is continuing to make its content more accessible.”

He added that Foxtel would look to “utilise Foxtel’s assets and expertise in a smart way to capture a healthy share of the growing digital market”.
