US Cable Upfronts 2012: Travel Channel launches Man V. Food spin-off

US cable network Travel Channel has ordered a raft of new series including a new show fronted by Man V. Food host Adam Richman and a David Arquette-fronted adventure series.

The move marks the first cable broadcaster to announce new shows ahead of the traditional upfront process, which runs over the next few months, to appeal to advertisers.

The Scripps Network Interactive-owned channel has greenlit Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America, an eleven-episode series produced by Sharp Entertainment. However, the channel has announced that production of the Man V. Food franchise will be ended after its four year run.

It has also ordered Toy Hunters, a weekly half hour series that follows toy dealer Jordan Hembrough. The series is also produced by Sharp Entertainment.

Travel Channel has also put a number of new series in development including Fishbowl Worldwide Media-produced series Aloha Gold, based in Hawaii, and Mile High, following Scream star Arquette and his friend Mike McGuiness as they look for spontaneous adventures. It is produced by Coquette Productions.

These series join other new series that the channel has also announced will air this year including Baggage Battles, Hotel Impossible and Miami International Airport.
