Zig Zag hires Leila Monks
Zig Zag Productions has hired Leila Monks to fill the position of vice president of commercial and current production. Monks will join the UK indie at the start of November, joining from UK factual distributor TVF International.
In the newly created role at Zig Zag, she is tasked with setting up coproduction and commercial partnerships and executive producing shows that are commissioned.
While at TVF, Monks worked on the distribution of Zig Zag show Freddie Flintoff versus the World and one-off doc Transgender Kids (aka Aged 8 and Wanting a Sex Change).
“The role plays to her strengths of doing presales and coproduction and also allows Leila to be involved with the production side of the business,” Zig Zag chief executive Danny Fenton told TBIvision.
Her appointment will also allow Zig Zag to push further into emerging markets including those in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and the former Russian states and South America, Fenton added.
Monks will work alongside commercial consultant Ben Barratt and look at opportunities in the realm of ad-funded programming and digital production and distribution.
She will also spend part of the year at Zig Zag’s US office as the company seeks to up the proportion of revenues it derives from the States from a third to a half.
