Sony poaches BBC Worldwide exec to head comms

Sony Pictures Television has recruited Mark Macdonald, BBC Worldwide’s head of publicity for programming and production, to become its executive director, corporate communications, Europe.

Macdonald is VP, communications at Worldwide and declined to comment. However, TBIvision understands that he has told his colleagues at Worldwide, the commercial arm of UK public broadcaster the BBC, about the move and will join Sony soon after the Worldwide’s annual Showcase event, which is held in Brighton and takes place later this month.

He will be SPT’s head of communications in Europe and will report to Paula Askanas, senior VP, corporate communications in LA.

Macdonald replaces Johanna Cassells who left Sony at the end of last year and is now director of specialist Oxfordshire-based PR agency, Bottle.
