Cartoon Network to launch revamped Thundercats
US kids broadcaster Cartoon Network is to air a revamped version of classic animated series Thundercats.
The remake will be produced by Warner Bros Animation and Japanese animation studio Studio4°C and will see classic characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra and Cheetara designed in an anime style.
This follows the success of Warner Bros Animation’s recent projects including the revamped Batman series Batman: The Brave and Bold, which has been commissioned for a third season
Thundercats will be exec produced by Batman: The Brave and Bold’s Michael Jelenic and Ethan Spaulding, who has worked on Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as Warner Bros Animation executive VP, creative affairs Sam Register.
Register says: “In addition to being Warner Bros Animation’s first anime series, Thundercats marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy. The realism and dynamic visual style we’ve achieved are sure to thrill viewers and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience.”
