ABC picks up UKTV’s Ty’s Great British Adventure
ABC has acquired lifestyle series Ty’s Great British Adventure from British cable network UKTV. The US broadcast network has given the hour-long show a primetime slot and it will bow at 8pm on August 2.
The series follows US host Ty Pennington as he tries to makeover a run down town – Portreath in Cornwall, south west England. Pennington is already well known to ABC viewers as the presenter of the network’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Produced by UK indie Twofour and Pennington’s TPTV, the series has performed well on UKTV’s Home channel, where it more than doubled ratings for its slot.
The deal marks the first time a UKTV commissioned series has been sold to a US network.
UKTV is a joint venture channels operator run by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the UK public broadcaster and Virgin Media, the UK MSO.
