Genie in the House goes from small screen to big screen
French producer Moi j’aime la télévision (MJTV) is making a series of movies based on its hit live-action kids series Genie in the House. The series, which is coproduced by Helion Pictures, will form the basis of a three-part family-friendly movie franchise. The plan is to release the features theatrically before they end up back on the small screen.
The show airs on Canal J in France and Nickelodeon in the UK and is in its third season and has been sold into over 100 territories internationally. MJTV and Helion will be seeking additional funding for the planned movies at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
The producers plan to shoot the first movie next year, ready for release in 2011. MJTV managing director will produce and Helion managing director, Steven Bawol, will direct.
The cast of the TV show have been signed up to the movie. Phil Ox said: “We are excited by the possibilities of taking a half hour show to a feature-length film and we’re delighted to have secured our extremely talented young cast for all three movies.”
The show, and upcoming features, follow two teen girls who find that they have their own genie, Adil. MJTV.
