Corus, Shaw launching 3D TV
Canadian cabler Shaw and content company Corus are launching a 3D TV service.
Shaw Video on Demand and Corus’ Movie Central will feature TV series, features, sports and event programming in 3D fom this summer. The initial launch titles include NASCAR: The IMAX Experience, Journey to the Center of the Earth and Deep Sea.
Broadcasters including Japan’s NHK, and several Hollywood film studios, are working on glasses-free TV, but viewers of the Shaw/Corus service will need red and blue 3D glasses, which will be distributed to subscribers by Shaw.
Meanwhile, Shaw issued a trading update and said it is on tack to meet its previously-stated financial target, including the generation of C$500 million (US$429.4 million) of free cash flow in 2009.
In the two months to end-April, Shaw added 74,833 digital subs and 7,000 basic customers, taking the totals to 1.6 million and 2.3 million respectively.
