Discovery orders gangster show from British Nerd

Discovery has ordered a new show that delves into the world of gangs, from UK production house Nerd.

Inside the Gangster’s Code will be a 5x60mins factual series presented by former Mafia street boss Lou Ferrante. He will use his connections and underworld knowledge to delve into gangster communities.

Elizabeth McIntyre, VP production & development, factual programming, Discovery Networks International commissioned the series.

She said: “The knowledge and passion, risks and challenges undertaken by Lou give a completely new perception to organized crime. We have seen in the past scripted dramas about mob life, but by exploring the operation beyond mere stereotypes, the audience gains a real and vivid understanding.”

Nerd is making the show for Discovery’s international channels. It is the production firm set up with investment by Survivor and The Word creator Charlie Parsons and founded by former Tiger Aspect executives Jago Lee and John Farrar. Red Arrow Entertainment, the content arm of Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 Group, bought into Nerd last year.
