Canal+ hands FTA ents chief wider role

Vivendi-owned pay TV operator Canal+ has given free-to-air channel D8’s director of live and entertainment programming, Franck Appietto, the same responsibilities across Canal+.

In his new role, Appietto will report to Canal+ Group CEO Maxime Saada. He will retain his responsibilities at D8 under the channel’s director-general Xavier Gandon.

Appietto has held a number of production roles at Canal+ since he joined the company in 1999, including director of programming at the Planète family of factual channels and director of thematic entertainment with responsibility for channels Comedie!, Jimmy and Cuisine.TV.

He was named head of live programmes and entertainment at free-to-air channels D8 and D17 in 2012.

The moves comes after a number of management changes that have followed Canal+ parent Vivendi tightening its grip on the broadcaster.
