Talpa forms JV with China’s Zhejiang

Talpa Media has created a joint venture in China with major local broadcaster Zhejiang Talent Television.

The pair are set to sign a memorandum of understanding that says they will work together to develop and produce original programming in China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Talpa, which last year became part of ITV after a deal worth up to around US$1 billion, will pass the rights to The Voice of China to Zhejiang TV, with the broadcaster also keeping distribution rights to all productions from the JV for 15 years in the above territories. Talpa will sell the shows elsewhere internationally.

Talpa, which launched a number of similar international joint ventures in 2014, previously had a Chinese JV with Puji Star Media, which was titled Talpa China Star. Star China was the previous producer of The Voice, whose first season reached more than 500 million viewers.
