Warner Bros. films set for TVOD service

South African transactional video-on-demand service Altech Node has scored a wide-ranging feature film deal with Hollywood studio Warner Bros.

South African telecoms group Altron TMT launched Altech Node in September last year as an entertainment hub, streaming server, Wi-Fi hotspot, home automation and energy management system, telephone, videophone and e-commerce platform.

Content services firm Vubiquity closed the deal on Altech Node’s behalf, and said the deal would “substantially extend the new release content available to users”.

“Working with Vubiquity we’ve secured some exciting new releases from Warner Bros. for the forthcoming season including American Sniper, The Judge, Interstellar, The Hobbit, and Horrible Bosses 2,” said Altech Node managing director Marius Marais.

“Warner Bros. has brought us classic titles such as The Dark Knight, the Harry Potter film series, Inception and Gravity. Our new Warner Bros. content agreement will bring outstanding entertainment within the reach of every home.”

The films are non-exclusive to the platform in South Africa, a spokesman told TBI.

“Customers in emerging markets are increasingly time-poor and rigid broadcasting schedules no longer meet their needs,” added Adam Poulter, MD, EMEA for Vubiquity.

“The appetite for streaming services is growing rapidly and customers rightly expect to be able to access the latest Hollywood movies and critically acclaimed TV series whenever and wherever it suits them.”
