Walking Dead exec adapts Swedish drama

Gale Anne Hurd from The Walking Dead and Universal Cable Productions are developing Swedish drama Brothers in Crime for the US market.

Walking Dead executive producer Hurd’s prodco Valhalla Entertainment has a pod deal with NBCUniversal-owned UCP, and the pair will coproduce the show alongside Peter Stormare and Glenn Lund from Viking Brothers Entertainment.

Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook) has signed on the direct and executive produce, with Cliff Dorfman (Entourage) adapting the scripts and also EPing.

The original Swedish series, Tusenbröder, was an SVT and Matador Film coproduction from writers Lars Lars Lundström, who will be a coproducer on the US version.

Brothers in Crime will tell the story of three childhood best friends that are in adulthood partners on a construction business, who decide to do one criminal job when faced with losing everything to the bank.

Brothers in Crime is a heart-wrenching, rugged, crime series that questions moral values and tests the lines people are willing to cross for loved ones,” said Dawn Olmstead, executive VP, development at UCP.

“We’ve assembled a formidable creative team to adapt this Swedish breakout drama, and we anticipate it will equally resonate with and intrigue American audiences.”

Hurd’s Valhalla and UCP are also currently producing Syfy drama Hunters, which is based on Whtley Strieber’s novel Alien Hunter.
