Hulu orders comedy from Video Game High School prodco

US streaming service Hulu has ordered an original long-form comedy from the makers of YouTube series Video Game High School.

The Hulu original, details of which largely remain under wraps, comes from digital prodco RocketJump Studios in association with Lionsgate Television.

The producers joined together last year in a deal that gave Lionsgate access to RocketJump’s upcoming slate of digital content and its in-house talent.

RocketJump’s most recent production is season three of Video Game High School, a series among the most popular on Google-owned video site YouTube with more than 84 million views over its first two seasons.

RocketJump’s deal with Hulu marks its first show for Hulu, and its first that exclusively debuts away from YouTube.

“As we continue to add the best talent to Hulu, it was a natural choice for us to partner with Freddie Wong and RocketJump,” said Beatrice Springborn, head of originals, Hulu.

“With so many great content creators in the media landscape – from film, to television, to YouTube – Freddie Wong and the RocketJump team undoubtedly bring their own brand of creativity and a new wave of talent to Hulu.”

“We firmly believe the future of television is online, and Hulu has recognised the value of quality long-form series,” said Freddie Wong, co-founder of RocketJump.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring our brand of over-the-top action and comedy to a new audience in a show that will change the way you look at independent filmmaking.”

Hulu, meanwhile, has already commissioned two originals, Deadbeat and Casual, from Lionsgate.
