MTV and Channel 5 join forces for MTV Awards

MTV-awardFree-to-air service Channel 5 and pay TV counterpart MTV will both show next month’s European Music Awards live.

In a clear sign that the two companies are working more closely together after MTV parent Viacom acquired Channel 5 for £450 million earlier this year, both channels will show the EMAs, meaning both free and pay TV coverage for the flagship event, which takes place in Glasgow this year on November 9.

The show will go out ‘as live’, one hour after it starts in the Scottish city, meaning a 9pm start on both channels.

David Lynn, president, VIMN UK, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to give access to the MTV EMA to the widest possible UK audience and let everyone share in the excitement of one of the hottest nights in music.”

He added: “It’s another example of how our high-quality content can be shared and promoted between our channels to the benefit of all.”
