Hincks named president of Shine-Endemol

Tim Hincks has been named president of the merged Endemol, Shine Group and Core Media joint venture business.

Tim_HincksThe news comes after sources within the prodcos indicated he would land a top role at the recently confirmed media giant.

Hincks is currently Endemol’s group president. In his new role, he will report to Sophie Turner Laing, the former BSkyB content chief that was named as CEO of the group earlier this year.

Laing and Hincks will work closely together to develop and grow the creative and strategic direction of the company, with the latter taking specific control of operations in the UK and US. A large proportion of the Endemol-Shine-Core prodcos are based in these two territories.

Hincks joined Endemol in 1999, having previously worked in factual programming for the BBC for nine years.

He went on to hold a number of key posts at Endemol’s UK operation, culminating in a CEO post in 2008 that also saw him joins Endemol’s international and creative boards.

He was the named group president in 2012 during the period in which Endemol was wrestling with financial issues, and took on responsibility for the UK and US, plus content creation and commercial exploitation across the group.

“I’m delighted that Tim, whose experience and understanding of creative entrepreneurship and talent is first class, will be working with me to grow this new group,” said Turner Laing.

“The company will be one of the world’s most innovative and diverse content creators, with exceptional talent, commercial expertise and resources that enable talent in each market to deliver outstanding content across genres and platforms.”

“Having worked with Tim for the last two and a half years I have no hesitation in saying that the new joint venture couldn’t have a more ideally suited executive in this key role,” added Endemol CEO Just Spee, who will exit the business once the deal has passed regulatory checks.

“Tim’s creative and strategic leadership at Endemol, and his support to me as CEO, have been invaluable. His appointment alongside Sophie strongly positions the business for what is sure to be an incredibly exciting new chapter.”

21st Century Fox and Apollo Global Management recently formed a joint venture, which remains unnamed, to house the merged operations of Big Brother producer Endemol, MasterChef firm Shine and Idols owner Core.

The deal is expected to close by the end of the year. Core will retain its own capital structure following the merger.
