Sky orders British-Asian unscripted reality show
Sky Living has ordered Desi Rascals (WT), a twelve-part structured reality show about British Asians living in west London.
The 12x60mins series will go out on Sky’s female-skewed entertainment channel Sky Living next year. It was created by Gurinder Chadha (Bend it Like Beckham).
Buccaneer Media, the UK-based prodco backed by production and distribution group Cineflix and run by former Lime Pictures boss Tony Wood, is producing Desi Rascals.
Sky said it will “tell the stories of a modern, dynamic and aspirational group of characters across a range of ages as they navigate their social, professional and family lives in a fast changing community”.
Viewers will be able with the cast using social media with the show on air twice a week in an 8pm slot.
Gurinder Chadha said: “I’ve been wanting for a long time to create a show which allowed me to show the British Asian community in a truly three-dimensional way, exploring the relationships between generations and what it means to be British and Asian as values become fluid.”
Tony Wood, CEO, Buccaneer Media said:”Having been at the start of the British structured reality boom [with TOWIE], it’s great to be back. Desi Rascals moves the genre on and brings the massive tale of young British Asians to a whole new audience.”
