Xbox developing live-action Winterworld series

Xbox has ordered Winterworld, a live-action series based on the Chuck Dixon and artist Jorge Zaffino comic book series.

The show is being developed by Xbox content division Xbox Entertainment Studio and IDW Entertainment, the TV division of the comic publisher IDW, which launched last year.

The series is being developed for the Xbox platform as the Microsoft gaming service broadens into a full-fledged home entertainment proposition with original content for users.

Winterworld is set in a dystopian future in which earth has been encased in ice and humans form warring tribes.

IDW Entertainment’s Ted Adams and David Ozer will exec produce along with Rick Jacobs and Dave Alpert from Circle of Confusion (The Walking Dead).

“To see my stories and Jorge’s powerful images brought to life will be a serious thrill,” said Chuck Dixon, “We have the right partners and the right format to really make this something special. It’s an exciting time in comics and in entertainment overall and I am very pleased that Winterworld will be a part of it.”

The comic book series was originally published in the late 1980’s.
