International deals for That Awkward Moment comedy format

That Awkward MomentGerman broadcaster WDR, part of pubcaster ARD, and SBS in the Netherlands have picked up new comedy format That Awkward Moment.

The comedy sketch show recreates real-life awkward moments.

It was originally created by production firm Dedsit for Belgium’s Flemish commercial broadcaster VMMA, which put it out on its 2BE channel. It was a big hit on the channel, doubling its slot on the channel and taking a 14% audience share.

Matthieu Porte’s Can’t Stop Media is distributing the format and finished version of the show.

As well as the German and Dutch deals for the finished show, Can’t Stop has optioned the Australian format rights to ITV Studios, which plans to make a local version.

“The concept and humour of the show is simple and universal and everyone can relate to it,” said Can’t Stop Media partner Andreas Boenisch. “The first deals with Germany, Australia and the Netherlands prove that the show has the quality to air either as finished episodes or as a localised format.”
