Mid East VOD platform launches in North America, UK

The online platform dubbed the Middle East and North Africa’s answer to Netflix, icflix, has launched in Canada, the US and the UK.

The subscription VOD service is now offering Bollywood and Jazwood (Arabic) content to ex-pat Arabic and Hindi speakers in those territories, a move that comes after trademarks were registered in North America and Europe in June.

Registered members will be able to access library content via a wide range of internet connected devices, including computers, smart TVs, smart phones, tablets and for US$4.99 a month. Distribution via video game consoles is also to be coming soon, icflix said.

Users will be able to sign up for a seven-day free trial.

However, the Hollywood studio content it offers in MENA is not included in the launch.

“We have a great selection of Jazwood and Bollywood content available for people of all ages. We believe Arabic and Hindi content have the potential to appeal to a globalized audience” said Carlos Tibi, co-founder and CEO, icflix.
