Caleb Weinstein resurfaces at Amazon

Having left Discovery this summer, Caleb Weinstein has taken a role at Amazon in the US, TBI understands.

Weinstein oversaw a raft of channel launches in a stint lasting five and a half years at the factual and entertainment channel operator. Before the channels role, he ran Discovery’s international programme sales and consumer products business.

His departure as senior VP and general manager for distribution, EMEA, came as Discovery rejigged senior management positions, bringing Tom Keaveny to London to become president of international affiliate sales, as first reported by TBI in April.

Keaveny was Discovery’s Asian boss and that role was filled by Arjan Hoekstra who joined from Eurosport.

At the time of the reshuffle, Weinstein was understood to have taken a senior role at another media company. It has now emerged that Weinstein, a native New Yorker, has relocated from London to Seattle to take a distribution role at Amazon.

As director of partner development, Amazon Streaming Video, he will work on the company’s growing video service. It is understood he will work with Amazon’s content partners and have a role in content development and acquisition.

Prior to Discovery, Weinstein was senior VP, business and digital strategy at New Line Cinema. He has also had several stints at Viacom’s MTV, in strategy and business development roles.

Separately, Amazon’s content division has reportedly picked up a half-hour comedy drama from Six Feet Under executive producer Jill Soloway. The show follows a family with murky secrets, according to entertainment news site Deadline.
