Showmax extends NBCU’s ‘Real Housewives’ franchise into Abuja

The Real Housewives Of Abuja

Showmax in Africa is prepping a second version of NBCUniversal’s Real Housewives format, this time set in Nigerian capital Abuja.

The Real Housewives Of Abuja comes in the wake of a 2021 Lagos-based version for Showmax and marks the eighth remake in Africa, with Delmedia Productions behind the new show.

It will follow the luxurious lives of six influential and successful women in Abuja, as they navigate their opulent lives, relationships, family and businesses within the powerful city of Abuja and beyond.

The format has been remade 21 times around the world and is distributed by NBCUniversal Formats. The Abuja show debuts on Showmax across Africa on 17 February, with new episodes dropping every Friday.

Dr Busola Tejumola, executive head of content & West Africa channels at Showmax parent MultiChoice, said: “Telling our local story is at the core of what we do and we are glad to continue this partnership with NBCUniversal Formats to bring the franchise to a second city in Nigeria.”
