The Orchestra

StudioCanal tunes up ‘The Orchestra’

StudioCanal has acquired Danish comedy series The Orchestra for launch at MIPCOM next week.

Created by SAM Productions and directed by Mikkel Munch-Fals, who is also head writer, the series follows the rules and hierarchies, power struggles, jealousies and relationship challenges behind the scenes at the Copenhagen Symphony Orchestra.

Frederik Cilius Jørgensen, Rasmus Bruun and Neel Ronhølt star.

Francoise Guyonnet, StudioCanal’s executive MD TV said: “We are delighted to continue our long-term partnership with SAM Productions and very proud to bring this new series to MIPCOM.”

ITVS & Media Musketeers present ‘Essex County’

ITV Studios and Media Musketeer Studios will launch an adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s graphic novel, Essex County at MIPCOM.

The limited series, which premieres in Canada on CBC and CBC Gem in winter 2023, follows the intertwining lives of two families living in a rural community. It explores how loss, betrayal, and trauma can impact generations and how redemption can be found through human connection.

Molly Parker, Brian J. Smith, Stephen McHattie, Finlay Wojtak-Hissong, and Kevin Durand lead the cast of the 5 x 60-minute drama, which hails from Media Musketeers and First Generation Films.

“This emotionally powerful and imaginative story of loss and loneliness in rural Ontario speaks to our universal longing to better understand and connect with each other in our own families and communities, and we can’t wait to watch this exceptional cast bring Jeff’s characters and vision to life,” said Sally Catto, GM, entertainment, factual and sports, CBC.

A Cut Above
