Fox & ‘Rick And Morty’ creator Dan Harmon launch ‘Krapopolis’ NFT’s

Krapopolis

Rick And Morty creator Dan Harmon has partnered with Fox in the US to launch a series of NFT’s ahead of the launch of the network’s animated series Krapopolis.

The show is set to premiere on Fox in 2023 and has been created by Harmon, with Fox-owned animation studio Bento Box Entertainment producing.

Fox’s Blockchain Creative Labs division has worked with Harmon to launch a dedicated website to the show, through which fans will have the opportunity to purchase and collect NFT ‘Krap Chickens’ that unlock digital and real-life experiences within the show’s universe.

They will provide “access” to private screening rooms, entry to Discord channels, invitations to meet-and-greets with cast and producers, as well as series voting rights and first-look exclusivity to forthcoming NFT drops.

More than 10,000 NFT’s will be launched from 11 August, with each produced and illustrated by the show’s animators and “generated from a wide range of attributes with varying degrees of rarity.” All NFT artwork will originate directly from content that appears in the program.

NFT expansion

Rupert Murdoch-led Fox made its first moves into NFT’s last year with the formation of both the Blockchain Creative Labs and a $100m ‘creator fund’ to identify growth opportunities in the space.

BCL, which operates under the Fox Entertainment banner, is led by CEO Scott Greenberg, who is also co-founder & CEO of Fox subsidiary Bento Box Entertainment, the US animation firm behind shows including Bob’s Burgers.

Greenberg told TBI in April that NFT technology is seen as “the future of content distribution and financing” at Fox. The division has already launched The MaskVerse, which allows viewers to buy and sell digital assets from Masked Singer, which airs on the US network.

Greenberg said: “In addition to being one of the most groundbreaking storytellers in the business, Dan is a master at cultivating fan engagement and building community among viewers.

“This first collection of Krapopolis NFTs, and the utility they will provide, represent the early beginnings of how Dan and other creators can harness Web3 to open the door and bring audiences closer to their content than ever before.”

Fox claims Krapopolis is the first animated comedy to be curated on the blockchain. The show is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters that try their hand at running the world’s first cities.
