Paramount+ unveils latest UK originals, with drama duo & unscripted series

Paramount+ has unveiled it latest slate of scripted and unscripted UK original series ahead of the launch of the global streaming service in the country this summer.

The slate, which follows plans outlined last year by chief content officer for UK Ben Frow, includes The Ex-Wife, a 4 x 60-minute series based on the psychological thriller of the same name.

It follows a woman whose life is shown thrown upside down when her husband’s ex-wife won’t leave them alone and is being co-produced by Clapperboard Studios, BlackBox Multimedia and Night Train Media.

Night Train is financing and handling worldwide distribution rights, with the show written by Catherine Steadman, who will also serve as executive producer.

The other new drama is The Burning Girls, a 6 x 60-minute series based on the novel of the same name by CJ Tudor that tracks a female vicar and her daughters life in a village full of conspiracies and secrets.

The series is produced by Marcella’s Buccaneer Media in association with VIS, the international studio division of Paramount. Hans Rosenfeldt serves as the lead writer, with Camilla Ahlgren (The Bridge) also in the writing team.

Unscripted expansion

Away from drama, UK originals for Paramount+ include LA Hairdressers (w/t), produced by Fulwell 73 in association with Endeavor Content. It follows two legendary LA establishments, with their talented teams of stylists that make them destinations for the Hollywood elite. Endeavor Content will handle global sales.

Fashion House (w/t), produced in association with All3Media International and Night Train Media, and tells the story of three of the greatest fashion houses of all time – Gucci, Versace and Burberry. Each programme charts the very distinctive journey of each house, told by fashion insiders at the heart of each story.

Other shows on the slate include Pervert: Catching the Strip Search Caller from Wag Entertainment, and Girl, Taken, produced by Soilsiú Films, in association with Screen Ireland, M-Net and Abacus Media Rights.

The newly announced original series will each be exclusively available on Paramount+ in the UK following the launch of the service this summer. They join previously announced UK originals including A Gentleman In Moscow, Sexy Beast and Flatshare.
