Cartoon to launch new physical event, CartoonNext, in Marseilles 2022

Cartoon Business 2021

Non-profit organisation Cartoon is launching a new physical event, CartoonNext, dedicated to the rapidly evolving animation ecosystem, which will launch in France in April 2022.

Taking place in the French city of Marseille from 12-15 April, CartoonNext aims to explore the consequences of the last two years on the sector, across creation, production and distribution.

Through keynotes and panels from industry experts to pitching sessions from European producers, the three-day event will look at how changes in animation push towards more synergies with other industries, such as video games and live action cinema.

Marseille is hosting the event in a bid to support the local animation and video game sectors, alongside its partners – the Metropolis of Aix-Marseille and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region.

Earlier this year, the Metropolis of Aix-Marseille-Provence launched a Metropolitan Cinema/Audiovisual/Multimedia Assistance Fund (FACAMM), aimed at supporting production companies in this sector.

The Metropolis is also looking to take “supplementary steps” to support and develop the local industry.

CartoonNext will sit alongside Cartoon’s existing stable of animation events, including Cartoon Forum, Cartoon Movie, Cartoon Springboard and Cartoon Business.
