Disney+ greenlights action-comedy ‘Wedding Season’ for Star

Emily In Paris

Disney+ has greenlit Wedding Season, a UK-produced original romantic-comedy action series for the streamer’s Star label.

The eight-part series is being produced by Dancing Ledge Productions (The Salisbury Poisonings) and Jax Media (Emily In Paris), and written and executive produced by Oliver Lyttelton.

Chris Carey, Laurence Bowen and Toby Bruce will also exec produce for Dancing Ledge, while Lilly Burns, Brooke Posch and Tony Hernandez will do so for Jax Media. George Kane will direct.

The series tells the story of a beautiful bride who is discovered on her wedding day surrounded by the bodies of her husband and all of his family – and nobody is entirely sure who is responsible.

Johanna Devereaux, Disney’s director of scripted content, EMEA, said: “When we first read Oli’s brilliant scripts for Wedding Season we laughed out loud… and we were desperate to find out what happened next. It’s an addictive, genre-defying series packed with twists and turns.”

In February, Disney+ hired two new execs in Spain and Germany to head up original productions and unveiled a slate of 10 new European commissions, as well as a commitment to 50 European productions by 2024. Wedding Season will mark the 15th European original for the streamer as it seeks to hit its target.
