Cineflix COO Akman & ‘Coroner’ creator Brebner launch Husk Media


Cineflix Media’s COO Andrew Akman is stepping down from his role to launch a new Canadian production firm backed by the company, with Coroner creator Morwyn Brebner also onboard.

Husk Media, which is based out of Toronto, will develop and produce programming for broadcasters and streamers worldwide, with Brebner leading creative efforts and Akman heading up commercial affairs.

The prodco will focus on projects created by Brebner, but will also work on projects in partnership with emerging and established writers and showrunners.

First-look & support

Cineflix is providing start-up financing and operating support, and has also taken a first-look to distribute the shingle’s content internationally. The new production company joins Cineflix’s growing joint-venture line-up, which also includes Mirage producer Connect3 Media and Marcella producer Buccaneer Media.

Brebner has been behind numerous dramas including Coroner for CBC and The CW Network, which Cineflix Media’s sales arm distributes globally. She has also co-created supernatural medical series Saving Hope and police drama Rookie Blue.

Akman, meanwhile, is stepping down from his current role as COO at Cineflix Media to launch Husk Media. He has been in the business for more than two decades, working across production, distribution and broadcasting.
