US-based prodco CIC Media is developing a slate of content based around the life and art of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, in partnership with the Frida Kahlo Corporation and Venezuelan composer and singer Carlos Baute.
The deal will allow CIC Media, which also has offices in Mexico and the UK, to produce a number of different projects in different genres, all focused on Kahlo, with the first being a scripted drama series. Joel Novoa and Marilu Godinez are attached to write the script, with Novoa also set to direct. Baute, meanwhile, will serve as producer and score composer.
Production is expected to begin on the drama later this year, with the project due to be presented to the market next month.
“We are currently developing and writing the basis of the series and expect to be ready to present the project in the upcoming weeks,” revealed Marlon Quintero, CIC Media’s MD.
“We are developing a high concept series trying to mix up the fascinating new wave of international content with our experience in the American studio system,” added Novoa and Godinez. “The idea is to talk about what the books don’t. The subtext behind each painting, the richness of Mexico’s 20th century and the revolution. Themes that are incredibly relevant at this unprecedented time”.
