LatAm streamer Europa+ launches, with ‘Doctor Who’ & ‘Vernon Subutex’

US-based media company Castalia Communications and Mexican investment fund Innokap have announced the launch of a new OTT service Europa+.

The SVOD will bring popular TV programming from the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and other European countries to audiences in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Predominantly targeted at European ex-pats and “lovers of European content and culture,” Europa+ will feature over 1,500 hours of premium content including series, documentaries, mini-series, reality shows, concerts, special events and kids programming.

Headline content on the platform includes iconic BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who and StudioCanal mystery Vernon Subutex along with a range of other content from broadcasters like Nordic World, Mediaset and 2DF.

The app is available on iOS, Android, AppleTV, Roku and soon on Amazon Fire devices, and has been designed in collaboration with Streann Media. It will also be supported by AWS, and boasts an experience “surpassing all existing boutique OTT services available nowadays.”

A press release from the streamer said that “users will find an easy-to-use interface to navigate and watch programming,” and that there is a strong social side to the service with the ability to share portions of content directly to social media.

Rollout will begin in Spanish speaking Latin America and the Caribbean in Q2 2020, with phase 2 including Brazil, the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean at a later date.

Rubén Mendiola, COO at Europa+, said: “Europa+ is about adding something extra. While many consumers will already watch a lot of on-demand content via many competitor services, Europa+ adds something different to their entertainment offering; premium European content.

“For Telecommunications providers looking to offer differentiated programming to what’s currently available in the market, Europa+ is a breath of fresh air. It offers the best and newest European TV programmes across all genres in their original language, with subtitles in numerous languages, including Spanish and English.”

Gio Punzo, CEO of Streann Media, added: “We are thrilled to bring new content experiences to the market. It is huge for us at Streann Media, as we see the tremendous growth of niche OTT services like Europa+. We are thrilled to implement our 100+ features to expand distribution, boost user engagement, and ultimately bring 10-times revenues to our content partners.”
