Korea’s CJENM strikes content deal with Chinese streamer iQiyi

Parasite

Chinese streaming operator iQiyi is stocking up its international service with shows including Oscar winner Parasite, following a deal with South Korean media giant CJ ENM.

The deal will see CJENM’s tvN Movies streamer become available in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam from 8 August via iQiyi International.

tvN Movies will provide a roster of first run films every month to iQiyi International, which launched its app last year and is rapidly expanding across South-East Asia.

The agreement, which sees tvN Movies available in Vietnam for the first time, will allow iQiyi International subscribers to watch a variety of Korean films including Ashfall, Hitman: Agent Jun, Baseball Girl, The Battleship Island and Train To Busan.

Three hit Korean movies from this summer – Peninsular, Deliver Us From Evil and Steel Rain 2: Summit – will also be available, after tvN Movies secured first and exclusive pay-TV, pay-per-view, VOD and OTT rights for the films across South East Asia.

Chinese streamer iQiyi revealed its plans for international expansion last week and last month added three new country managers, with two of the new appointments coming from foundering streaming rival Iflix, which was recently acquired by Tencent Video.
