Netflix unveils Spanish slate with singing show, dramas and docs

Netflix is expanding its originals in Spain with a new musical competition format, a documentary about the streamer’s hit La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) and new dramas.

A Cantar! will test six contestants as they sing popular songs in a bid to win €30,000 ($33,000) while the Casa De Papel doc will explore the Spanish drama, debuting at the same time as the scripted show’s fourth season.

On the drama front, shows include Jaguar from Bambú Productions, which is set in the 1960s and follows a concentration camp survivor who tracks down former Nazis.

Daniel Sanchez Arévalo is behind an untitled series about friendship with Atípica Films producing, while three movies are also in the works.

Amor De Madre, directed by Paco Caballero, is a comedy about a man left at the altar; there is an untitled romcom about volunteers a psychiatric clinic; and Netflix is also backing an adaptation of Elisabet Benavent’s novels Canciones Y Recuerdos, which will be known as Fuimos Canciones.
