Disney+ scores ITV Studios, Spoke Studios docuseries with LeBron James

Disney+ is working with ITV Studios and basketball star LeBron James on a 10-part docuseries that will explore celebrities’ early lives.

Becoming is being produced by James’ and Maverick Carter’s prodco Springhill Entertainment, ESPN Films, Spoke Studios and ITV America. It is based on a show that was originally created for Disney XD, which featured James and was piloted in 2014.

The new version for the streamer will feature sports stars, entertainers and musicians, exploring various celebrities’ hometowns to find out about their upbringings.

The show will be shot in vérité and include interviews with family, coaches, teachers, mentors, and friends, who will share anecdotes and insights. Sports stars Anthony Davis and Candace Parker will feature, as well as Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin and comedian Nick Cannon.

The show is being produced in association with James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson and Philip Byron from SpringHill Entertainment, with Brent Montgomery and Joe Weinstock executive producing for Spoke Studios, part of Montgomery’s Wheelhouse Entertainment. Jordana Hochman and Rebecca Bruno are attached for ITV America.

Disney+ will debut in the US, the Netherlands and Canada on 12 November, and in Australia and New Zealand on 19 November. The streamer’s execs were at MIPCOM earlier this month looking for family drama and young adult-oriented content without sex, as revealed by TBI.
