Content aggregator Alchimie is moving into the UK after acquiring OTT provider TV Player.
Financial details of the deal were not revealed but the acquisition will see Alchimie content becoming available on the SVOD section of the OTT service’s platform and app, which claims to have 450,000 viewers.
Alchimie provides around 40,000 hours of programming to companies including Google, Amazon and Orange, with a focus on natural history, crime, current affairs, history and children’s series.
The aggregator, which operates across Spain, Austria, France, Belgium, Germany and Australia, has revenue-share partnerships with over 250 rights-owners including Arte, ZDF and NHK.
Alchimie said the acquisition would “accelerate” its move into the UK “by introducing new UK distribution channels via the TVPlayer platform for Alchimie’s extensive portfolio of premium factual content.”
Nicolas d’Hueppe, CEO of Alchimie, said: “There are tremendous synergies to support the acquisition; our content portfolio enables us to restructure the channel offering behind the paywall, additionally our strong relationships with telecoms companies will introduce a potential new market to TVPlayer.”
Adam Smith, founder of TV Player, added: “As part of Alchimie, TV Player will be able to offer audiences a much broader range of high quality content over SVOD channels, designed to appeal to special interests and passions.”
