Magnify’s Fittest Family lands in Germany

Andrea Jackson’s Magnify Media has sold reality-fitness format Fittest Family into ProSiebenSat.1.

The German broadcaster has ordered a 4 x 90-minute version of the format, which was originally created for Irish broadcaster RTÉ. It will launch in a primetime slot in Germany this spring.

The show will be produced by German superindie Constantin Entertainment, with whom the deal was brokered by Magnify Media’s Cecilia Ingebrigtsen, format sales manager for Germany and the Nordics.

Fittest Family was originally devised and produced by James Sexton and Davy Fitzgerald in association with Ireland’s Kite Entertainment and Animo TV for RTÉ One, where it finished its sixth series in December, airing in a flagship Sunday-evening slot.

The format sees 12 mega-fit families compete in a series of physical tests and challenges to win the coveted title of ‘Fittest Family’, along with life-changing cash prize.

Four local sports legends mentor the contestants to help them achieve their personal best. The focus is on promoting family values and the concept of working together to achieve a goal, while also having fun and keeping fit.

Magnify Media acquired the rights to Kite Entertainment’s Fittest Family in 2017 and has since sold the format via a deal with new distribution outfit Maluc Entertainment to Chilean network Chilevisión, which is owned by Turner Latin America.

RTL Croatia and Slovenia’s Planet TV has also commissioned a first series of the show and has also optioned the rights to the Balkan region, including Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Macedonia. The series length and TX date of the Croatian and Slovenian adaptations is still to be confirmed.

Fittest Family has also been optioned in a string of other European territories, including Spain by iZen, Sweden by Jarowskij and the Benelux by Sputnik TV.

Magnify’s Jackson said: “I don’t think many people would dispute the prestige associated with breaking a new format in a major market like Germany and in the hands of Constantin, we have very high hopes for this version. Of course it has also been sold to Chile, Croatia and Slovenia and optioned across the Balkans and Western Europe so we can see a format fast gathering momentum. Fittest Family has a positive social purpose at its core with adaptable content for every platform – this is a great format for any distributor to have on its books, but one that particularly plays to Magnify’s expertise in adapting formats across the world.”
