HBO Europe has acquired Studiocanal drama ZeroZeroZero for Central and Eastern Europe and the Nordics.
ZeroZeroZero is produced by indie Cattleya for Sky, CANAL+ and Amazon, and is currently in production in three continents and six countries.
Shot in six languages and starring Andrea Riseborough, Dane DeHaan, Harold Torres and Gabriel Byrne, ZeroZeroZero is the story of violent and power-hungry criminals, of family dynamics and Mexican cartels, the ‘Ndrangheta (the Calabrian mafia), and corrupt businessmen fighting over control of the world’s most heavily distributed product: cocaine.
The series is developed by Leonardo Fasoli, Stefano Bises, Roberto Saviano and Stefano Sollima, who brought Gomorrah (pictured) to audiences worldwide.
It is written by co-head writers Leonardo Fasoli and Mauricio Katz. Max Hurwitz, Stefano Sollima and Maddalena Ravagli round out the team of writers.
Beatriz Campos, head of international sales at Studiocanal, said, “This is our first pan-regional deal with HBO Europe and we are delighted to kick off our relationship with the pre-sale of such a highly-anticipated new title.”
Ragnhild Thorbech, senior VP of acquisitions and programming at HBO Europe, added: “We are very excited to present ZeroZeroZero on our services, allowing our audience to follow the creative team behind Gomorrah on their newest endeavor. We were drawn to the authenticity of ZeroZeroZero, in the difficult arena of global drug trafficking and with multiple story lines, and the result will no doubt be thrilling.”
