Comcast expands Netflix partnership with new bundle deal

Comcast has expanded its partnership with Netflix, with the US pay TV giant now set to offer Netflix subscriptions as part of new and existing Xfinity packages.

Comcast said it will launch a variety of initial offers this month, handling Netflix-related billing so that customers can pay for the bundled offers through a single monthly statement.

The move comes after Comcast first launched Netflix on its X1 platform back in 2016 and made the Netflix catalogue searchable via X1’s voice remote control. Netflix said that X1 quickly became “the most used platform for Netflix viewing.”

Comcast meanwhile claims that 60% of its video customer homes use its X1 platform and that nearly 50% of X1 customers are “actively using Netflix on the platform”. At year-end 2017, Comcast reported having 22.4 million video customers in total.

“Our partnership with Comcast on Xfinity X1 has brought easy access to Netflix for our mutual customers,” said Bill Holmes, global head of business development for Netflix.

“By speaking into or browsing with the X1 remote, millions of customers have found the perfect thing to watch on Netflix. We can’t wait to introduce more X1 customers to Netflix with Xfinity’s new packaged offers.”

Sam Schwartz, chief business development officer, Comcast Cable, said: “Netflix offers one of the most popular on demand services and is an important supplement to the content offering and value proposition of the X1 platform.”

“Netflix is a great partner, and we are excited to offer its services to our customers in new ways that provide them with more choice, value and flexibility. The seamless integration of Netflix with the vast Xfinity entertainment library on X1 present a unique and comprehensive experience for customers.”
