MIPCOM slates – FremantleMedia & Dutch Features

Dale Winton02 The trend for nostalgia continues strong – FremantleMedia has acquired rights to classic British gameshow Supermarket Sweep and is bringing it to MIPCOM.

The format, which Al Howard created in 1965, first ran on ITV in the UK in 1993 and was last on air a decade ago.

The trolley dash format sees contestants answers pop culture questions to accumulate seconds for a ‘Big Sweep’ around a full-sized mock supermarket.

The format is joined by others such as The Recording Studio, which was just commissioned by BBC One; The crafts-focused show Artisan; primetime entertainment series Golden Brain; Your Song, which feature surprise performances from music stars; comedy gameshow The Noise; and transformational format Restart.

Dales Supermarket Sweep“The time is ripe to bring back this all-time favourite gameshow which has travelled with such success over the years,” said Fremantle’s executive VP of global acquisitions and development, Vasha Wallace.

“Now, modern technology allows us the opportunity to update the show, making it relevant for a 21st century audience.

“It is a great addition to this year’s MIPCOM slate and given the interest we’ve had already we’re confident that everyone will be as excited for its return as we are.”

Dutch Features

Amsterdam-based Dutch Features Global Entertainment is kicking off MIPCOM this year with a drama miniseries about football corruption.

The Fix debuts on NPO3 in the Netehrlands on October 22, and will launch to buyers along with shows such as RTL’s Black Tulip, which has rated well at home.

There is also digital drama The Forsaken, a crime drama told from the perspective of the victim and offender.

Dutch Features has also sol The Swell to AMC in US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria and Portugal. There are also new deals for The Body Collector and cop series Force.

“Recent deals such as AMC acquiring The Swell and the numerous deals for The Body Collector and Force show the major potential for Dutch drama – not just in Benelux,” said Dutch Features CEO Pim van Collem.

“At MIPCOM, we will present top of the notch drama from the Netherlands and Belgium and with this line-up it’s set to be one of our strongest markets since our founding.”
