TVNZ renews ITV deal despite output issues

New Zealand’s TVNZ has renewed its output deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE) despite yesterday pointing to the ill effects of a similar agreement.

The multi-year agreement means the commercially funded public broadcaster will have a first look at all ITVSGE shows across the drama, entertainment, factual entertainment and documentary genres.

Yesterday, TVNZ revealed its output deal with The Walt Disney Company had become loss making, and was the primary reason behind an 89% year-on-year profit drop.

However, TVNZ director of content Cate Slater said the deal with the global sales arm of UK broadcaster ITV “highlights the appeal of the content and makes sure TVNZ can continue to deliver viewer favourites like Coronation Street and Victoria”.

Other shows in the deal include dramas Cold Feet and Prime Suspect: Tennison, gameshow The Chase and soap Emmerdale.

“This latest renewal in the Asia Pacific region shows once again that our extensive global catalogue remains extremely popular,” said Augustus Dulgaro, executive VP of Asia Pacific for ITVSGE and COO of ITV Studios Australia.
