Scripted-logo-460_2Lars LundstromScandinavia’s Nice Entertainment Group has bought Swedish drama producer Matador Films.

The deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, will see MTG-owned Nice group Matador with subsidiary Nice Drama.

Matador is best known for Äkta Människor / Real Humans, a sci-fi drama for Swedish pubcaster SVT that was remade in English for the UK’s Channel 4 and the US’s AMC as Humans. The company also produces Farang for C More and TV4.

Matador chief Lars Lundström will now work exclusively for Nice Drama, which is best known for international coproduction Midnight Sun and the upcoming Viaplay original Hassel.

“I am certain it will be incredible fun and inspiring to develop and work on future projects together with Nice Drama for the Swedish and international television market,” said Lundström.

Nice CEO Morten Mogensen said the acquisition gave his company “an even stronger pipeline to meet the demand for scripted content that we feel in the market right now”.

Nice Drama currently has several projects for broadcasters and SVOD platforms in development.

Mogensen replaced previous Nice CEO Morten Aass in January.

Nice, which MTG had put on the block last year before eventually keeping the business, comprises 30 production companies in 17 territories.

Lundström and Henrik Widman created Matador in 2009.
