Hulu set for RuPaul drama

Scripted-logo-460_2RuPaul's-Drag-RaceHulu is set to develop RuPaul’s half-hour dramedy series loosely based on the Drag Race star’s life.

The subscription VOD service will be working with both the star of RuPaul’s Drag Race and Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams for the project, currently titled Queen.

Queen is a fictionalised version of RuPaul’s rise from club kid to drag queen, gay icon and global star. It is written by executive producer Gary Lennon (Power) and set in New York during the Reagan era in the Eighties.

RuPaul will executive produce alongside Bad Robot’s Abrams and Ben Stephenson, as well as World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato.

A combination of prodco World of Wonder, Warner Bros TV and Santa Monica-based Bad Robot helped to create the title.

It extends Bad Robot and Warner Bros’s relationship with Hulu. The two companies produced 11.22.63 for the platform and are set to work on Castle.
