ITV grabs Hatton Garden heist drama

Scripted-logo-460_2Polly HillUK broadcaster ITV has ordered a four-part drama about a real-life jewelry heist in Hatton Garden, London.

Timothy Spall, Kenneth Cranham and Brian F. O’Byrne will star in Hatton Garden, with Jeff Pope writing the four-part series with Terry Winsor.

The ITV Studios-produced drama is based on an audacious jewels and cash burglary a gang of elderly career criminals in April 2015.

It will tell the story of how the men planned, prepared, organised and ultimately succeeded in pulling of the heist at the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company, and the complex police investigation that later led to their arrests.

Pope (Little Boy Blue), head of factual drama at ITV production arm ITV Studios, and Winsor (Hot Money) are co-executive producing, with Imogen Cooper (Quacks) producing.

The commission came from ITV head of drama Polly Hill (pictured), who joined from the BBC last year.

“After the critical acclaim of Little Boy Blue, we are delighted to commission Jeff Pope’s new drama, Hatton Garden,” said Hill.

“Jeff is a master at bringing these true stories to screen and these dramas have always been and continue to be an important part of ITV drama. I think the audience will be fascinated by this story and Jeff’s compelling dramatisation of it.”

Filming begins in London in June.
