The Barcelona Connection sets up UK-Spanish copro

Scripted-logo-460_2London-based independent producer Nevision and Barcelona-based Diagonal TV are developing The Barcelona Connection, a new UK-Spain crime-thriller copro.

The series will be based on the crime novel of the same name, which is written by former Condé Nast Spain boss Tim Parfitt.

It will be shot in English and Spanish. Set in Spain, it will follow events in the wake of a politically motivated kidnapping that coincides with the city hosting its first G20.

Roger Gual, whose 7 Años was Netflix’s first Spanish-language original film in Spanish, is attached as director. Alan Whiting (Kingdom) will write the series.

“One of our aims as a producer is to create European drama that will resonate with a global audience,” said James Cabourne, executive chairman of Nevision.

The Barcelona Connection brings together an award-winning director with the incredible writing talent of Alan and Tim. Combined with a thrilling plot we are confident that this will attract the attention of international broadcasters.”

Albert Sagalés, head of coproductions at Diagonal TV, said: “Teaming with Nevision on a project like The Barcelona Connection represents a valuable opportunity for us to enhance our presence in the international TV drama market.”
