Netflix, Carey Mulligan join BBC drama

Scripted-logo-460_2Carey MulliganNetflix will offer upcoming BBC drama Collateral internationally, with Hollywood star Carey Mulligan (pictured) announced on the casting side.

In the UK, BBC Two commissioned the David Hare-penned, four-part thriller drama that is set over the course of four days in modern day London.

Mulligan (An Education) will star as a single-minded detective who believes a seemingly random shooting of a pizza deliver man is, in fact, covering a darker truth.

John Simm (Life on Mars), Nicola Walker (Spooks) and Billie Piper (Doctor Who) also star in the ensemble piece, with S.J. Clarkson helming the series.

All3Media International is selling the show globally, and brought SVOD service Netflix on board. All3-backed drama house The Forge is coproducing with the BBC and Netflix.

“I’ve been writing drama for the BBC since 1973, but this is my first original series,” said Hare, who is executive producing with George Faber, Mark Pybus, Lucy Richer and Clarkson.

Filming begins this week.

The BBC and Netflix have struck similar copro agreements for Troy: Fall of a City and Watership Down.

Netflix has made the UK a key territory for local production after launching The Crown. It is also co-creating shows with ITV and Channel 4.
