France 5 orders The Real War of Thrones

French pubcaster France Télévisions has greenlit The Real War of Thrones: A History of Europe, a four-part doc series about the history of Europe.

Indie prodco Pernel Media is making the series for the France 5 net and will produce French and international versions.

The series will use drama reconstruction to focus on a period in history. Each one-hour episode will cover a 30-40 year period in which two rival European houses clashed.

Events covered include Edward Plantagenet’s conflict with the house of Valois, Henry VI’s battles with Charles VII and the Hundred Years War, and the Duke of Burgundy’s struggles with Louis XI.

“This is a very ambitious, blue chip docu-drama production,” said Pernel founder Samuel Kissous. “Given its production value and the stories it will tackle, it’s a truly international series.”

“We are very grateful that France 5 has shown such confidence in the project as it is the first series produced to this standard for a very long time.”
