The acquisition of the 10x70mins series marks the first time the BBC has acquired a Spanish-produced drama, though its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, did coproduce The Refugees with Atresmedia in 2014.
I Know Who You Are (aka Sé Quién Eres) comes from Mediaset España and Filmax International, and is sold internationally by UK-based distributor Arrow Films.
The crime drama follows a 55-year-old criminal lawyer who does not know if he is the killer of his niece, who disappeared the night he was a terrible car accident that wiped his memory.
“Our first contemporary Spanish drama is an intriguing, multi-layered series which quickly becomes the dramatic equivalent of a page-turning thriller,” said BBC head of programme acquisitions Sue Deeks.
BBC Four claims to be the UK’s premiere destination for international drama, and has in the past year acquired scripted shows from the US, Australia and Sweden.
