Israeli kids net seeks ‘cutting edge’ content

Kids-logo-460_2A new Israeli children’s channel is seeking out “cutting edge” educational content.

Hop! Media Group launched Wiz, an edutainment channel, on January 1 to make school subjects more accessible.

Sharon Moverman, director of acquisitions at Hop!, said: “We are in search for cutting-edge content, including short-form content, on top of classic, traditional half-hour formats.

“Our wish list includes content that can introduce children to the glory of nature, the variety of cultures, and the mysteries and achievements in science and art.”

The channel, which targets 6-11 year olds, combines non-fiction content with animation and live-action drama. Wiz also broadcasts series from major international channels.

Hop! Media owns other Israeli children’s channels, Hop!, Luli, and Hop! Israeli Childhood. It operates mainly in preschool, and distributes a number of apps and YouTube channels in multiple languages including Hebrew, Arabic, Turkish and Romanian.

Wiz’s launch has allowed Hop! to expand its target audience, offering content for children between the ages of one and eleven.

“Combining the leading trends of current media consumption among kids, Wiz brings the right blend of non-fiction content together with animation and live-action drama,” said Hop! deputy CEO Michal Butel.

“Wiz, with its carefully selected content, will offer an enjoyable viewing experience that is challenging and thought provoking, while providing a wonderful opportunity for quality family time.”
